André Küüsvek
President and CEO, Nordic Investment Bank
As the President and CEO of the Nordic Investment Bank (NIB, www.nib.int), André has an overall responsibility for NIB’s operations and assets of €40 billion. NIB is the international financial institution of the Nordic and Baltic countries owned by 8 countries – Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Iceland, Latvia, Lithuania, Norway and Sweden.
Before joining the NIB in 2021, André had a 25 year career at the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD, www.ebrd.com), where he held leadership positions over two decades, most recently as the regional Managing Director, leading a team of >200 staff across 6 countries and 16 offices, and a portfolio of EUR 7 billion. André’s earlier EBRD jobs included leading the bank-wide strategic Local Currency and Capital Markets Development in 2012-2020; being a Country Director in Ukraine, the 2nd largest EBRD country in 2008-2013; and a Country Director in Kazakhstan in 2004-2008. Prior to that, André led project teams investing equity and debt in financial sector in 1996-2004, simultaneously being the EBRD-wide coordinator for capital markets and the financial sector. André served in EBRD management committees: the Strategy and Policy Committee in 2012-2017, and the Asset & Liability Committee in 2014-2020.
André started his banking career as one of the first commercial bankers in Estonia in 1992, heading the international departments of Tartu Commercial Bank and Bank of Tallinn. He then moved to Germany, working for the SMH Bank and, later, for Dresdner Bank.
André has served on the boards of over 30 banks, insurance companies, stock exchanges, equity and pension funds, and large infrastructure companies in aviation and railroads. André is currently also the Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Rail Baltic Estonia (www.rbe.ee).
An Estonian national, André graduated with MSc from Tallinn University of Technology, studying also in Sweden, Germany, Finland and Hungary. He is a graduate of Estonian Business School and Stockholm School of Economics. André speaks 5 languages.
