Founder and CD, FÓLK Reykjavik

Ragna Sara Jónsdóttir is the founder and creative director of FÓLK Reykjavik. In 2017 she founded FÓLK  with the aim to work on two goals; To create a brand that would be a platform for Icelandic designers and develop a platform for the creation of products contributing to a more sustainable lifestyle and circular economy.

Ragna Sara has during the last five years in her job as a founder and creative director of FÓLK Reykjavik, worked on the interconnection between design, sustainability, production and the circularity of materials.

Ragna has a broad background from media, international business and sustainability. After completing a BA in anthropology and working for a decade in print and broadcast media she went on to study an MSc. degree in international business at Copenhagen Business School. Focusing on the role and responsibility of business in developing countries she was perplexed by business’ potential to create positive social developments. Ragna then became a consultant and director of corporate responsibility and sustainability for organizations and businesses such as the United Nations Development Program, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Islandsbanki and Landsvirkjun.

Ragna has engaged in environmental and human rights issues, she was the president of UN Women National Committee in Iceland and vice president and a board member of Festa Center for social responsibility.

FÓLK launched its first collection in 2017 and has since been a growing Icelandic design brand. FÓLK works according to their internal design principles where focus on materials and sustainability go hand in hand with aesthetics and create the value proposition of the company. FÓLK has worked with acclaimed Icelandic designers for their designs, such as Flétta, Theodora Alfreðsdóttir, Ragna Ragnarsdóttir, Tinna Gunnarsdóttir, Jón Helgi Hólmgeirsson and Ólína Rögnudóttir.
